The Boys & Girls Club of Northwest San Diego invites you to a "Movie in the Park" on Saturday, September 19, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at La Colonia Park! 

The night will feature live music, community booths, and the film "The Book of Life," starting at dusk.

Enjoy complimentary food from Jake's Del Mar and dessert provided by Solana Frosty, available while supplies last.

On the first Wednesday of each October, the Coalition for Clean Air hosts California Clean Air Day to reduce air pollution. The statewide annual event on October 7th is built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to take action and create new habits to improve air quality. 

This year, celebrate Clean Air Day with Friends of the Library on a special Saturday opening at the Solana Beach Library!

There will be live music, activities, swag and prizes for those who bike to the event. The City will be attending, along with the Girl Scouts, the SeaWeeders Garden Club, the Solana Beach Free Farmers Market, Go Greenish and more!

Exhibitors will showcase practical ways to reduce environmental impacts, including conservation best practices and energy saving technologies. Community Exhibitors will share how they are participating in providing cleaner options for our environment and air. Attendees can discover easy, everyday actions that support cleaner air.

The “Clean Air Fair” is part of a larger effort to promote The International Day of Clean Air and Blue Skies. The worldwide event aims to raise awareness worldwide by exchanging best practices among governments, cities, businesses, and scientists, and civil society. The 2026 theme is “Clean Air, Healthy Choices: Acting Together for People and Planet,” will highlight that individual and collective actions such as transit, elimination of food waste, and family energy choices influence our air quality. 

Friends of Solana Beach Library is grateful for the support from the San Diego County Library System and the Solana Beach Library Branch for this special event with a Saturday opening. Libraries are cool places to be on a hot day and serve as free, temporary cooling centers where people can congregate, socialize and beat the heat.  

The day promises to be a fun and exciting community event that offers celebration and education about the importance of clean air and easy ways we can all support clean air and a healthy environment in wonderful Solana Beach and beyond.  Come join us as we have something for everybody at the Clean Air Fair.

Air pollution in California poses serious health risks, and transportation remains the largest source of pollution. You can help clear the air by pledging to support Clean Air Day and choosing sustainable commuting options like biking, walking, carpooling, or using public transit. The City has partnered with EDCO to host another Fall Sustainable Recycling Day!

This year’s event will be on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the La Colonia Community Center parking lot, 715 Valley Avenue, at the Valley Avenue entrance.

The clean-up event will have mulch available for self-load/self-haul, certified shredding trucks that will shred all items on site, Goodwill collecting reusable items, and collecting unwanted electronic and universal waste. 

Bulky Item Cleanup
Residents will have the opportunity to place trash, green waste and up to four bulky items at the curb that would be too large or heavy to put inside collection carts, such as, broken appliances, water heaters, furniture, old mattresses (please wrap mattresses prior to setting out - special mattress disposal bags can be purchased at hardware stores or on their websites), and other miscellaneous bulky household clutter. Please do not leave Electronic Waste out at curbside, feel free to drop off at the La Colonia Community Center during the shred event. Tree trimmings should be cut into 3’ lengths and tied securely into bundles not greater than 18” in diameter. Please do not use plastic bags, paper bags are accepted.

Please schedule your cleanup items to be picked up beginning the week of September 21st by calling (858) 350-8544 and put the items out curbside by 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026 for collection.

Free E-Waste Collection!
Unwanted electronic waste will be collected at the event including TVs, computer monitors, printers, fax machines, VCRs, DVD players and cell phones.

Free Compost and/or Mulch!
EDCO will have compost and/or mulch available for self-load/
self-haul at the clean-up event at no cost. Come early and bring a shovel to get your material while it lasts! Limit of 3 cans/bags per vehicle. If you plan to haul your material in an open truck or trailer, please remember to bring a tarp to cover your material.

Free Paper Shredding!
Protect the security of your confidential information by shredding your
personal documents. There will be certified shredding trucks on site during the event and all
items will be shredded ON SITE! Limited to two bankers boxes (10”x12”x15”) per household.

Goodwill will also be onsite to accepting new and used clothing, shoes, kitchenware and home decor. Please go to edcodisposal.com for a list of items that Goodwill will not accept.

Event is for Solana Beach residents only. Debris from contractors, landscapers or commercial businesses will not be accepted. Household hazardous waste and tires will not be accepted.
