Take the Pledge for Clean Air Day!

On the first Wednesday of every October, the Coalition for Clean Air hosts California Clean Air Day to reduce air pollution. The statewide annual event is built on the idea that shared experiences unite people to take action and create new habits to improve air quality.

This year, join in celebrating California's Clean Air Day on Wednesday, October 7th. Take the individual pledge to challenge yourself to take the actions we know are essential to clean air, like taking transit, shopping local, installing an air monitor and much more. Take the organizational pledge to have your employer or school publicly show their support for clean air. 

Air pollution in California poses serious health risks, and transportation remains the largest source of pollution. You can help clear the air by pledging to support Clean Air Day and choosing sustainable commuting options like biking, walking, carpooling, or using public transit. Interested in learning more about what our community is doing to keep California's skies blue? Stop by the Clean Air Fair on Saturday, October 3rd at the Solana Beach Library to learn more about sustainability initiatives happening in the City! There will be booths from local organizations, live music, food, and giveaways! 

The “Clean Air Fair” is part of a larger effort to promote The International Day of Clean Air and Blue Skies. The worldwide event aims to raise awareness worldwide by exchanging best practices among governments, cities, businesses, and scientists, and civil society. The 2026 theme is “Clean Air, Healthy Choices: Acting Together for People and Planet,” will highlight that individual and collective actions such as transit, elimination of food waste, and family energy choices influence our air quality. 

Friends of Solana Beach Library is grateful for the support from the San Diego County Library System and the Solana Beach Library Branch for this special event with a Saturday opening. Libraries are cool places to be on a hot day and serve as free, temporary cooling centers where people can congregate, socialize and beat the heat.  

The day promises to be a fun and exciting community event that offers celebration and education about the importance of clean air and easy ways we can all support clean air and a healthy environment in wonderful Solana Beach and beyond.  Come join us as we have something for everybody at the Clean Air Fair.
