New Pollinator Signs Around the City!

Event Image
Date: Oct 26 , 2026

Just last week, the pollinator garden in front of La Colonia Community Center got an upgrade! The garden is a certified Monarch Waystation, and now features an educational sign for visitors to learn all about the western monarch's lifecycle. Additional individual plant and pollinator signs have been added to La Colonia and in front of City Hall for viewers to scan and learn more about the many plants and pollinators you may find! View here.

In recent years, monarch butterfly populations have plummeted at an alarming rate. Habitat loss and degradation is one of, if not the greatest, threats to not only monarchs, but all wildlife. Every year since 2021, the City resigns the Mayor's Monarch pledge to display our commitment to creating and restoring habitat for Western monarchs and other pollinators while educating residents about how they can make a difference at home and in their community. These efforts support the City's Climate Action Plan and the mission of the SeaWeeders Solana Beach Garden Club, who has continued to assist with the establishment and maintenance of pollinator gardens around the City.

To further support native and pollinator plants and gardens in the City, our Climate and Resiliency Commission's Pollinator Friendly City Subcommittee is asking for your input! While pollinator plants are helpful to support our pollinator populations, native plants offer a variety of additional benefits. They require less irrigation, help prevent the spread of wildfires, support native pollinator species, are adapted to local weather patterns, and require few to no pesticides as a result.

If you are a homeowner, renter or property manager in Solana Beach, please take 5-10 minutes to fill out the survey below. Your participation will help us understand Solana Beach’s pollinator habitat, how it has changed over the last 5 years, and potential gaps to address moving forward.
